TAP News February 2008

Project Update

The planning application is proceeding through its consultation phases. On-site meetings have been held with the planning officer and highways personnel. A decision should be made towards the end of March.

The Ecological Survey has been completed and a report published by Wye Valley Surveys. A survey of bryophytes in the Angiddy remains to be carried out in springtime.

The brief for the archaeological survey has been revised in conjunction with Glamorgan-Gwent Archaeological Trust. Additional research will be carried over the length of the pipe run. A number of trial pits will be dug along the route of the pipe.

Landowner permission to install the scheme has been received from Tintern Angling Club. A decision from MCC and from the Forestry Commission is expected soon.

Hydrogeneration are continuing to work with the Environment Agency to obtain the Abstraction licence and the Impoundment licence. These should be available by the end of April.

Applications for grant funding for the full cost of the implementation of the project have been submitted to a number of potential funders. A total of £25000 is already approved. Decisions on the remainder are expected by April.

The water flow rate in the Angiddy continues to be measured regularly. The heavy rain through January has resulted in some very high flow rates. Since mid November, the flow rate has not dropped below 300 litres per second. Well in excess of the amount needed to run the project at full output, whilst retaining a good residual flow in the Angiddy.
